New Premium features: True black, fonts, icons, & more

Typography can be beautiful as well as practical.

Today we're excited to give Premium users an unprecedented degree of control over the appearance of words, paragraphs, and pages in Matter. Read on for a tour of your new style options.

6 new colors, including True Black

Previously you had two color choices: White and dark. We added six new ones, rebuilding our color system so the themes flow gracefully throughout the app.

The light colors — Sepia, Dawn, and Paper — reduce contrast, giving you a gentler reading experience, even in bright environments.

The dark colors — True Black, Winter, and Forest — bring a richness to nighttime reading, with a hint of your preferred palette.

Ultra dim

When reading before bed, you might find yourself in a pitch black room with a partner close by. Even with a black background, the light emitted by text and images can be a deal-breaker.

For this scenario, we extended the range of our dimmer and added extra dimming to images while in dark mode.

Beautiful new fonts, margin controls, & typographical refinements

We're pleased to offer gorgeous new artisan fonts, including Valkyrie, Signifier, Lyon, and Camphor, to complement our excellent serif and sans serif defaults.

In addition, you can now adjust your margin width, a frequent request from iPad users.

Finally, we've tuned many typographical details, such as our handling of block quotes, header fonts, links, and bulleted lists, to make them more visually appealing.

Custom icons

By popular request, you can now customize your app icon!

In addition to our sleek default, designed by icon artist and Matter user Gavin Nelson, you can opt for original black, white, and — for Patrons — chrome.
